Padel is highly accessible thanks to rental services, for your first game, all you need is sports clothing and an extra 100 Kč to rent a racket. If it suits you, you can gradually invest in your own equipment. Here is an overview of what to buy and in what order.
Rocket (3 000 - 7 000 Kč)
Padel rackets have no strings; they are solid boards made of foam and carbon with a perforated surface. They differ mainly in shape and balance.
- Round rocket - balanced in hand, forgiving for beginners. Recommended as your first own racket.
- Drip shape - universal for advanced users.
- Diamant - centre of gravity in the head, aggressive play, only for strong players.
A beginner needs a racket costing 3 000 - 4 000 Kč. Brands such as Bullpadel, Head, Babolat and Wilson are ubiquitous. A higher price mainly adds durability and special materials. You will only notice the difference in play after a year of use.
Balls (150 - 250 Kč / set)
A padel ball is like a tennis ball, but slightly smaller and with lower pressure. One set (3 pcs) lasts for 3-5 hours of play. Most venues lend or sell balls at the reception.
Boots (1 500 - 3 500 Kč)
This is the first thing to invest in. Padel shoes have a special sole pattern for artificial turf (fine herringbone) and lateral reinforcement for rapid direction changes. Tennis shoes for asphalt do work, but they wear out the court and your ankles faster. Asics, Adidas and Wilson all have solid ranges.
Clothing (any sports attire)
A functional T-shirt and shorts are sufficient. Specialised padel clothing exists, but the difference from standard tennis gear is aesthetic, not functional.
Add-ons (optional)
- Overgrip (50 Kč) - winding on the handle. Change after every 10 hours of play.
- Vibration dampener - dampens vibrations, suitable for elbow pain.
- Sports bag - The padel "padel bag" holds 2–3 rackets, balls and clothing.
Recommended start
